GMC reg: 2955896I trained at King's College Hospital Medical School, London. I undertook basic surgical training at UCH and The Middlesex Hospitals. My Orthopaedic registrar rotation was based at Westminster Hospital. I was a 'Barts senior registrar' on the St Bartholomew's Hospital rotation, now known as the 'Pott Club' rotation. I worked at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Norfolk and Norwich, Great Ormond Street and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals. This rotation provided me with great training and exposure to a wide range of paediatric and adult trauma and orthopaedics. My first exposure to paediatric Orthopaedics was at Westminster Children's Hospital. After 6 months at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a senior registrar I undertook a post CCT fellowship in the paediatric unit at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. I was appointed to my current consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in January 1996, where I have remained to the current day. I set up and developed the hip screening clinic in order to maximise early diagnosis and treatment of babies with hip dysplasia. This clinic has evolved and is now run by Advanced Healthcare Professionals with consultant input. In 1996 I appointed an extended scope Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Practitioner to work alongside me. This was the first such post in the UK. We further developed these posts to facilitate development of our specialist club foot, hip dysplasia and neuro-orthopaedic clinics.
Trauma and orthopaedic surgery - Paediatric Orthopaedics
I have a special interest in paediatric foot and ankle disorders. I undertake regular, complex multidisciplinary club foot clinics as part of my NHS practice. I see a wide range of foot and ankle disorders in otherwise healthy children, in addition to those with neurological, neuromuscular or other complex disorders. These may present with foot pain or deformity and include conditions such as:- Flat foot (pes planus), Calcaneal apophysitis or Sever's disease (heel pain), tarsal coalition, congenital vertical talus (CVT), club foot (CTEV), metatarsus adductus, skew foot, cavus or 'high arched' foot deformities to name some. Hip dysplasia Lower limb deformities - knock knees (gene valgum), bow legs (genu varum) Gait abnormalities (concerns regarding walking pattern) - in toe (pigeon toe gait) and out toe gait Paediatric upper and lower limb trauma I like to see children with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, be they straightforward or more complex. I enjoy meeting children and their families and do my best to communicate with them clearly and concisely. I believe that some children are best cared for by a multidisciplinary team and recognise that at times this may be more comprehensively provided in the NHS. Please contact my Personal Assistant Juliana, if you are unsure as to whether I am an appropriate specialist for your child.
