Working at PHIN

The Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) is a dynamic organisation at the forefront of healthcare informatics in the UK.

PHIN is an independent not-for-profit that exists to support patient choice and to provide data that helps drive improvement across private healthcare.

Our primary duty is always to the patient – whether that is providing information to support their choice of hospital or consultant, or advocating on their behalf.

While we have a high-profile, we remain a small team where everybody’s personal contribution is visible and matters.

With your help, we can realise our ambition to be the best health information service in the UK.

Employee benefits

We offer a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • 25 days annual leave days, with additional discretionary days between Christmas and New Year.
  • An extensive well-being programme with access to Occupational Health and Employee Assistance.
  • A flexible approach to working, including hybrid working.
  • Regular social events through our staff-run social committee.
  • Matched company pension (after 3 months) and enhanced training and education support (after probation).

Our Commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

PHIN welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is committed to encouraging a diverse and inclusive workforce.

We recognise that the more diverse our workforce, the more able PHIN is to reflect the diversity of the patients that we serve.

We aim to provide an environment where we all feel accepted and valued and we will continue educating ourselves to ensure our behaviours reflect our values and our commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

If there is anything we can do to make the recruitment process more accessible for you, please contact us at recruitment@phin.org.uk

The Working Week at PHIN

It is important to PHIN that we offer our employees flexibility and therefore we support hybrid working. For us this means that for most roles we ask our employees to be in our offices in Cavendish Square, London, W1G OAN, for two days a week. They can work from home for the remainder of the week if that suits them better.

We need to remain flexible to the needs of the business, so it is possible that you would need to be in the office or on a site visit more than that, for example if there was a particular meeting to attend.

We believe that getting our employees together in person fosters creativity and relationship building and our new joiners have told us that being in the office has helped them to get up to speed quickly, build relationships faster and to really feel part of PHIN.

At PHIN we work 37.5 hours per week.

Our Commitment to Employee Wellbeing

We want to create an environment where employees feel that they can talk about their personal situations and feelings with their colleagues, and we have trusted and appropriately trained Mental Health First Aiders. We want to listen to what our employees say, be able to give support and information and encourage people to get appropriate professional help if needed.

We provide mental health awareness training for all employees as part of their induction and our employees have access to an Employee Assistance Programme, as well as Occupational Health if required.

Recognising our Employees

One of the ways we like to reward and shine a spotlight on our employees and reward their efforts is through our bi-annual awards ceremony.

There are 2 categories:

  • The Excellence Awards - for those who have performed exceptionally to deliver business objectives in line with our principles
  • The Hidden Gem Award - which acknowledges the valuable contribution by an employee over time. They are the people who live the company’s values daily but may not always be recognised for it.

Anyone in PHIN can nominate fellow coworkers for the categories and the Leadership Team analyses all nominations twice a year and makes a final decision based on the criteria and nomination forms. The awards are announced at the quarterly team meetings in June and December.

Our Commitment to Developing Our Employees

PHIN recognises that our success directly relates to the contribution and commitment of our employees. All our employees have an appraisal, including a career development conversation, at least once a year. You will agree your personal objectives with your manager which tie into our company objectives. This is in addition to your regular 1-2-1 meetings with your manager. We also encourage employees to seek out ways to develop themselves within PHIN.

Transparency is important to us and we want to offer our employees the opportunity to apply for vacancies so all roles are shared internally with all staff.

PHIN supports and encourages the development of essential skills by our employees. There is a budget for those employees wishing to gain additional qualifications in their professional field and there is a training agreement associated with this.

We run our Excellence Awards twice a year to recognise those employees who have performed exceptionally to deliver the objectives of the business in line with our principles and values.
