Mr Yashin Ramkissoon is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cataract and Vitreo-Retinal Surgery. His NHS practice is based at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. His main expertise lies in cataract and retinal surgery, but he also offers care in all aspects of general ophthalmology. Mr Ramkissoon graduated from the University of Cambridge MB PhD Programme in 1997 with a distinction in Medicine and a PhD in Molecular Biology. He continued to maintain high standards in his training, going on to complete his Ophthalmology residency training at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he also undertook Fellowship training in both Vitreo-Retinal Surgery (2007-2008) and Medical Retina (2008), before being appointed as a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sheffield in 2009. Mr Ramkissoon has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships throughout his career, including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists McCartney Prize during his training. He is active in research has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. He has also co-authored book chapters on Cataract Surgery and Retinal Detachment. He is committed to teaching and training and is currently Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology (South Yorkshire) in the Yorkshire & Humber Deanery School of Ophthalmology. He is also an Educational Supervisor and has been College Tutor for Ophthalmology trainees in Sheffield as well as Undergraduate Teaching Lead at the University of Sheffield. In addition, he is a Microsurgical Skills Faculty Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and the British & Eire Vitreo-Retinal Society and maintains an active role in clinical research relevant to vitreo-retinal surgery.
