Dr William Scotton

Dr William Scotton is a Consultant Neurologist specialising in movement disorders and cognitive neurology at The Harborne Hospital. He also holds an NHS consultant appointment at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and is an Honorary Consultant at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He is experienced in diagnosing and managing a broad range of general neurological conditions including tremor, memory problems, dementia, dizziness, headaches, double vision, blackouts, seizures, weakness and balance disorders. He has subspecialist expertise in Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonian syndromes, frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr Scotton runs specialist NHS clinics in cognitive neurology and movement disorders alongside a general neurology service, and has subspecialist training from the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford before graduating in Medicine with distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Scotton is an Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham and leads the West Midlands Initiative for Neurodegeneration (We-MIND), a regional research programme focused on improving regional access to clinical trials and developing better treatments for neurodegenerative disease. He completed a Wellcome Trust-funded PhD at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and has published widely in journals including Brain and The Lancet Neurology . Dr Scotton takes a patient-centred approach to care, working closely with patients and their families to provide clear explanations, accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plans. Initial general neurology consultations are scheduled for 40 minutes to allow time for a detailed assessment and careful discussion of symptoms, concerns and treatment options.
