Mr William David Goodier

I am a London based Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular specialist interest in sports injuries and the complications of fractures. I qualified from The Royal London Hospital in 1985 and worked there and at St Bartholomew's Hospital as lead consultant for orthopaedic trauma for 15 years, and as Head of Department for 3 of those years. The Royal London is the home of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, giving an unparalleled experience of the management of the most severely injured patients. It was this that led to an interest in the management of 'problem fractures' including non-union, deformity, and post-traumatic shortening. In December 2011 I left The Royal London to take up the post of Consultant in Limb Reconstruction Surgery at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where I still maintain an NHS practice. I have an extensive Limb Reconstruction practice, using the Ilizarov frame and the Taylor Spatial Frame, and am one of Europe's most experienced users of the Precice Intramedullary Limb Lengthening Reconstruction System. I lecture throughout the UK and worldwide on these techniques. I routinely see 'second opinion' cases of injury in the NHS and privately, and provide expert medicolegal opinion for both plaintiffs and defendants. I have been a member of council of the British Limb Reconstruction Society for several years, and President of the Society from 2018 to 2020, and spent 10 years as an examiner for the FRCS(Tr&Orth) exam. My interest in the overall management of trauma extends to Sports Injuries through which I see athletes of all levels for knee, foot & ankle problems. I perform arthroscopic and ligament surgery on both the knee and the ankle joint, as well as other lower limb and foot surgery.
