Professor William Alazawi

Professor William Alazawi is a Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal London Hospital and Professor of Hepatology at Queen Mary, University of London. He qualified from Cambridge University and trained at Addenbrooke’s, Hammersmith, Royal London and King’s College Hospitals. He holds accreditation in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Professor Alazawi is an internationally recognised academic and leads a thriving research group which studies the science that underlies liver disease as well as the best ways to assess and treat disorders of the liver. His research is funded by major charities and the Medical Research Council and is published in leading medical journals. He consults and lectures on liver disease internationally. He is a past Chair of the British Association for the Study of the Liver Special Interest Group in fatty liver disease and is a Clinical Advisor to the British Liver Trust. 

Professor Alazawi looks after patients with a broad range of liver diseases and abdominal conditions and consults privately at London Bridge Hospital and London Digestive Centre (part of the Princess Grace Hospital).  William's particular areas of interest include abnormal liver tests, non-alcoholic and alcohol-related fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, iron-related and other metabolic liver abnormalities, viral hepatitis and cirrhosis. He uses state-of-the-art non-invasive techniques to assess the liver and he is a skilled diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopist.
