Mr Victor Hu

Victor completed ophthalmology registrar training in the West Midlands which included a PhD on trachoma based in Tanzania with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He then undertook the Corneal Fellowship at St Paul’s Eye Unit, Liverpool before taking up a Consultant Ophthalmologist post, including Corneal Lead, at Mid Cheshire Hospitals. In September 2026 he is moving to take up a Corneal consultant post at Solihull Hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham. He is an experienced cataract surgeon and is often referred challenging cases to undertake, as well as being asked by staff members to undertake their surgery. He set up the toric intraocular lens service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals and also small incision cataract surgery. He regularly undertakes cataract surgery with toric, extend monovision and multifocal lenses. He has a passion for delivery excellent patient care, with a focus on safety. In September 2026 Victor has been appointed to start in the role of Cataract Audit Lead for the National Ophthalmic Database, part of the work of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He also has an academic appointment with the LSHTM and undertakes work in Global Eye Health. This has involved research projects in fungal keratitis, glaucoma diagnosis and management, corneal transplant surgery and eye retrieval; co-organising an Ocular Infections module for the Public Health for Eye Care MSc; and Medical Editor of the Community Eye Health Journal. He has an interest in environmentally sustainable eye care and led the production of the College’s Guidance on Sustainable Cataract Surgery.
