Dr Trevor Smith

Trevor was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2006, initially in Bournemouth, followed by a move to Southampton in 2010. He looks after patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal problems, and has a sub-specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease, clinical nutrition and intestinal failure. Trevor is a highly experienced endoscopist, regularly performing gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures.   Trevor has a national and international reputation for leading and delivering specialist Gastroenterology services, with a particular focus on clinical nutrition and intestinal failure. He led the development of a large regional specialised service in Southampton, and supported the NHS to develop and deliver these services nationally. He was the longest serving President of the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) from 2018 to 2013.   Trevor now spends much of his professional time in senior leadership roles in the NHS, supporting the delivery of high quality healthcare across the south of England.
