Dr Toby Chave

I am a consultant dermatologist, with a substantive NHS post based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, and a busy private practice located primarily at the Plymouth Nuffield Hospital. I have been a consultant since 2004. I grew up in Devon and was educated at Exeter School. I went to Sheffield University to study Medicine, graduating in 1994. As a junior doctor I spent time working in Doncaster, Exeter and Cardiff, and also a year in Queensland, Australia, where my initial interest in dermatology developed. After specialist training in Leicester I obtained my Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Dermatology in 2004 and since then have been on the Specialist Register for UK-trained Dermatologists. I was appointed as a consultant in Truro in 2004 and then relocated to Plymouth in 2007 to take on the challenge of developing the unit there. I am proud to have overseen huge development in the NHS dermatology service in Plymouth over the last 18 years, which has grown into a cohesive, diverse team of consultants, junior doctors, and specialist nurses located in a purpose built centre. During that time I have also developed a busy and rewarding private practice covering much of Devon and Cornwall. I have a special interest in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer and benign skin lesions, including a particular interest in dermoscopy. I am also recognised as a dermatological surgeon, offering surgical excision for skin cancers and other lesions, from simple skin surgery to complex flaps and skin graft repairs.
