Mr Timothy Barlow

Tim Barlow is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialist expertise in knee surgery, based at Wrightington Hospital—one of the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic centres. He graduated top of his class in the pre-clinical programme at the University of St Andrews and completed his clinical training with Honours at the University of Manchester. His higher surgical training included posts at internationally recognised centres of excellence, where he developed innovative knee treatment pathways that received national recognition and multiple clinical awards. Mr Barlow has contributed to national policy and service development through his work with organisations such as Versus Arthritis and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), supporting research prioritisation and the implementation of evidence-based care pathways. He maintains an active interest in clinical research. His PhD examined determinants of outcomes in knee surgery and how to help patients make decisions about knee surgery. He has held competitive research funding from bodies including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Clinically, Mr Barlow manages the full spectrum of knee pathology. His practice includes the treatment of sports-related knee injuries—such as ligament reconstruction, cartilage and meniscal surgery, revision procedures, and complex tertiary referrals—as well as the comprehensive management of knee arthritis, offering non-operative strategies, joint-preserving interventions, and partial or total knee replacement where appropriate.
