Thomas Santarius has a special interest in treating patients with brain tumours, both adult and paediatric. His research is focused on better understanding of the biology of brain tumours and the improvement of surgical techniques to remove brain tumours, making them safer and more effective. The most common tumours he treats are meningiomas, metastases ('secondaries'), pituitary adenomas and gliomas (low-grade gliomas, such as oligodendrogliomas and astrocytomas, and glioblastomas). Some brain tumours can be treated and even cured by surgery alone, but many will require other treatments such as chemo- and radiotherapy. Thomas works closely with neurologists, neuro-oncologists, neuro-pathologists, neuro-radiologists, neuro-endocrinologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, neuro-physiologists, neuro-psychologists, neuro-anaesthetists, neuro-intensivists and ENT surgeons.
