Mr Thomas Chapman

I was born and bred in Worcestershire and attended Bristol University Medical School 1992-1998. I gained first class honours in an intercalated degree in Physiology in 1995 and an award from the smith and nephew foundation as well as a medical board undergraduate scholarship. I gained honours in medicine in 1998, and underwent surgical training passing the MRCS in 2002. I soon recognised that plastic surgery was the exciting, inventive and imaginative speciality for me that combined a scientific mind with artistic talent. My training in the southwest UK began in 2003 and I completed training in 2009, passing the plastic surgery exams -FRCS (Plast) and entering on the specialist register. My training was enhanced with competitive fellowships undertaken in Italy, London and Nottingham supported by an anward from Ethicon and a BAPRAS travelling bursary. I have been a substantive consultant since 2011 at North Bristol NHS Trust, with honorary contracts at the Bristol Childrens Hospital and Gloucester Royal Hospital. I have been in private practice since 2013, with excellent feedback and very low complication rates. I have over 30 peer review publications and have contributed to national guidelines and textbooks. I am also responsible for the national selection and training of plastic surgeons and local recruitment of junior surgeons, and have been a course organiser/faculty member for international conferences and courses. I contribute to audit and research and have devised a number of new techniques and approaches that are internationally recognised. I am a full member of BAPRAS. In my spare time, I enjoy repairing clocks appreciating the attention to detail and perfectionism required for a good outcome!

My NHS work focuses on reconstruction for trauma, sarcoma, hand surgery and skin cancer. My private work covers all aspects of cosmetic surgery and focuses on body recontouring. I am a core member of the sarcoma MDT in Bristol, and extended participant with the skin cancer MDT in Bristol and Gloucestershire.
