Mr Thanassi Athanassopoulos

Mr. Thanassi Athanassopoulos studied medicine at Oxford University and King’s College Hospital London qualifying with distinction prior to embarking on Plastic Surgery Training in Scotland. He is an expert in cosmetic facial and breast surgery and, in particular, complex secondary revision surgery. Mr. Thanassi is a highly experienced plastic surgeon and has attained the highest research degree Oxford University offers, (DM, Doctor of Medicine), after spending an additional 3 years at the Stem Cell Research Laboratory at the John Radcliffe Hospital studying regenerative therapies and stem cells. In recognition of the quality and contribution of his research he received the coveted research fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the young scientist award of the British Blood Transfusion Society. Mr. Thanassi is one of very few surgeons in Scotland to have specifically trained in cosmetic surgery to a higher level following the completion of plastic surgery training. To hone his expertise in cosmetic surgery, he has travelled the world to work with globally renowned surgeons. In Holland, he worked with Jeroen Stevens focussing on the artistry of the subSMAS, MACS lifts and facial liposculpture; in Vienna with International surgeons Heike Klepetko and rhinoplasty surgeon Jacques Van der Meulen at the Radetzky Villa as well as Professor Artur Worseg, Vienna’s Celebrity Plastic Surgery Doc, learning VASER and cosmetic breast surgery. In New Zealand, he worked at the National Burn Centre reconstructing patients from across the Southern hemisphere with massive burns and scars. Upon his return to the UK, he worked in the NHS, specialising in reconstruction of complex skin cancers of the face, and surgery for facial weakness as well as breast reconstruction. He now works exlusively at Alpha Hospital Group Aberdeen, Inverurie and Inverness.
