I qualified from Barts in 1983 and worked as a lecturer in anatomy for one year preparing for FRCS exams. I was a general surgical trainee for 13 years and during this time I was a lecturer in Surgery at Barts for 5 years. My research into smooth muscle cell proliferation was published as a thesis and I was awarded an MS (Masters in Surgery). My scientific work had been cited in peer review journals over 144 times and continues to be referenced to this day. Most recently in an article published in Frontiers of Surgery in March 2024. I have also presented papers at international meetings. I was appointed as a consultant surgeon in 1996. At that time the number of female consultant general surgeons in the UK was 0.08%, of these only half had children. I was therefore one of only 0.04%. In 2004 I left the NHS and have worked full time in the private sector since. I am a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at 108 and Lyca Health in Orpington and I chair the theatre users group at The Harley St Clinic. I have worked at 108 Harley St, an independent medical chambers for 28 years. In 2018 I was delighted to be invited to Practice at The King Edward VIIth Hospital and more recently I have established breast units for Lyca Health at Canary Wharf and in Orpington. I have also returned to Barts in the Nuffield at Barts and I have recently been granted practising privileges at KIMS hospital.

General surgery - Breast Surgery
I am a consultant breast surgeon, I see patients with all breast problems, which includes pain, lumps, change in shape/colour. I can give advice on breast feeding problems and can pride myself on being one of a few surgeons who have personal experience of this. I am also an expert on genetic, family history counselling and the management of breast cancer. Over the past 28 years I have selected a team of the top experts in the field and particularly compassionate and caring doctors. This includes plastic surgeons to obtain the best cosmetic outcome and oncologists to obtain the best survival outcome and also experienced pathologists, radiologists and genetics counsellors. Survival rates from breast cancer are now over 98% and I pride myself on providing an efficient journey through the process of managing breast cancer and endeavour to help my patients to post traumatic growth not post traumatic stress.
