Hello, I’m Dr Susan Alexander , a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in London, specialising exclusively in the shoulder. For over 20 years, I’ve been helping patients with a wide range of shoulder problems with a straightforward goal: to help you return to doing the things you love with confidence and without pain. Shoulder Conditions Rotator cuff tears and impingement – using arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques to repair torn tendons and relieve pain. Shoulder instability and dislocations – repairing labral tears and stabilising the joint, especially for younger or athletic patients. Arthritis of the shoulder – offering both non-surgical options and, where needed, joint replacement surgery. Shoulder replacement – including both anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements, tailored to the individual. Frozen shoulder – helping restore movement through a combination of therapies. Sports injuries – supporting athletes at all levels to return safely to sport. My Philosophy of Care Personalised care I take time to understand what matters most to you. For some patients, that’s returning to professional sport. For others, it’s simply being able to lift a kettle or sleep comfortably again. Your goals shape the treatment plan. Evidence-based practice I combine my surgical experience with the latest research and techniques, so you receive the most effective and safest treatment available. Compassion and clarity I know medical language can feel overwhelming. I’ll always explain your diagnosis and options in plain English, answer your questions, and support you through every stage of treatment. Many shoulder problems can be managed successfully with non-surgical treatments , such as physiotherapy, injections, or lifestyle adjustments. When surgery is the best option, I’ll explain exactly why, what the procedure entails, and what recovery looks like — so you feel confident in making an informed decision. Leadership I am the President of the Independent Doctors Federation (IDrF), which represents independent doctors across the UK, My priorities in this role are: Supporting doctors , to deliver the best possible care. Championing private medicine as an integral part of UK healthcare. Promoting transparency and trust , so patients can make fully informed choices. Teaching / Research PhD in Molecular Biology MSc in applied biomechanics Published research in peer-reviewed journals Presented at national and international conferences Executive Coaching I am also a qualified executive coach, working with professionals from various industries to help them build clarity, confidence, and resilience, which brings an additional depth to clinical consultations. What to expect when you see me A clear diagnosis, explained in language you understand Time to ask questions and explore your options A treatment plan tailored to your needs and lifestyle Ongoing support through your recovery Most patients tell me that they like the fact that they felt listened to, understood, and cared for throughout their journey.
