Mr Sridhar Rathinam

Sridhar Rathinam is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the UHL . He is the Chair of the East Midlands CTS Training Programme Committee and Chair of Cardiothoracic Specialty Board in Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK He is Education secretary of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS) and the Quality Assurance Lead for the Cardiothoracic Specialty Advisory Committee in the UK. He qualified in the Madras Medical College in Madras India in 1994 and underwent General Surgical Training (1994-98). He came to the UK as a British Council Fellow (1998-2000). He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000.  He underwent cardiothoracic training in the West Midlands Cardiothoracic Training programme (2001-2006) and completed his Intercollegiate Specialty Board exams in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2006. He undertook research studying the Proteomics in Lung Cancer in the Heartlands Hospital and University of Birmingham (2006-2009).    He was appointed as a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon in November 2009 in the University Hospitals of Leicester and Honorary Senior Lecturer in 2017. He has visited Copenhagen (VATS), Stuttgart ( endobronchial coils), and Guangzhou (Non intubated VATS) for clinical immersion to further his skills. He has introduced endobronchial valves, coils and uniportal lobectomy in his unit.  He has developed an innovative portfolio of 12 structured courses, designed and implemented to mirror the curriculum for nationally-appointed Cardiothoracic Surgery Trainees. He is actively involved in the assessment and quality assurance of surgical training being a member of the Specialty Advisory Committee.   He is a member of the National Selection Panel for trainee appointment in cardiothoracic surgery and Core surgical training. He is an examiners for Intercollegiate Specialty Board Examinations and European Board Examinations in cardiothoracic surgery.  He has been course director for national and international courses
