Grew up in India and qualified as a doctor from Grant Medical College, Mumbai, in 1984. Obtained an MS General Surgery in 1988 in Mumbai. Came to the UK in 1989 and trained as a Registrar/Research Fellow/Lecturer/Senior Registrar at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals for 8 years. Took the FRCSEd in 1991 and the Intercollegiate FRCS in General Surgery in 1998. Obtained an MPhil in 1995 (University of London) for research on primary liver cancer. Took up an NHS Consultant Surgeon position at the Royal London Hospital in 1999. Set up the HPB Surgery Unit at Barts Health and helped develop it into a regional tertiary service.

2. Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in Hepato-biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery, at The Royal London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals, Barts Health NHS Trust, London (from 01.07.1999 to 30.09.2020). Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust from 1 October 2020.
3. Serjeant Surgeon to Her Majesty the Queen (2016-2023). Prior to that, was Surgeon to the Royal Household (from 2006 to 2016)
4. Honorary Reader, Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London 2016 onwards
