Dr Sanjay Kumar

Dr Kumar is an experienced Consultant Cardiologist, providing general cardiology and cardiovascular risk reduction services at Croydon Health Services (CHS) NHS Trust. He has performed over 2,000 elective and emergency coronary interventions - angioplasty and stenting - at both CHS and Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of the busiest heart attack centres in the country. His clinical practice entails all aspects of adult cardiology, including the diagnosis and management of chest pain, breathlessness, and palpitations, with particular expertise in coronary heart disease and the management of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and cardiovascular risk. Dr Kumar is an approachable doctor, who takes pride in ensuring his patients are fully informed and receive personalised high quality care. He graduated with honours from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, with prizes and awards for research and clinical medicine, before completing his cardiology training in London. He underwent training in Interventional Cardiology at The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. Dr Kumar was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Imperial College London after completing original research in the field of myocardial stunning, and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals on a range of interventional and general cardiology subjects. He is currently a member of the Royal College of Physicians London, British Cardiovascular Society, British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and European Society of Cardiology. He is actively involved in developing sustainable NHS Cardiology services for patients in Croydon and South London as a whole, and is an experienced Educational Supervisor for Cardiology registrar trainees in South London. Special Interests: 1. Cardiovascular Risk Reduction. Dr Kumar leads an NHS cardiovascular risk reduction outpatient service, specialising in the management of high cholesterol, offering both genetic analysis and injectible drug therapies, and high blood pressure. 2. Percutaneous Coronary Intervention - angioplasty / stenting. Dr Kumar is consistently the highest volume operator at his NHS base, with excellent clinical outcomes from his procedures, frequently using intra-vascular imaging techniques to optimise technical results.
