Dr Sanjay Bhandari

Dr. Sanjay Bhandari is a highly respected Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Glenfield Hospital, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. He also offers private practice at Spire Nottingham Hospital. Dr. Bhandari earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with First-Class Honours from Leicester Medical School, where he was awarded the prestigious John MacVicar Prize for outstanding academic performance. His early research, supported by a Health Foundation grant , focused on novel cardiac peptides in acute coronary syndromes, earning him a distinction in his Intercalated BSc . He went on to complete a Master of Research with distinction before securing the highly competitive British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship , which funded his PhD on ethnicity and lipoproteins in coronary artery disease . His work has been widely published in leading international peer-reviewed journals . As a consultant, Dr. Bhandari manages the full spectrum of adult cardiology , including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, high blood pressure, and cholesterol disorders . His specialist expertise lies in heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy . With expertise in multimodality cardiac imaging , Dr Bhandari excels in advanced echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE), and cardiac MRI , enabling precise diagnosis and management of complex cardiac conditions. In recognition of his dedication to advancing cardiac imaging, Dr. Bhandari was selected as the UK Ambassador for the EACVI Heart Imagers of Tomorrow committee. His clinical excellence has earned him the prestigious title of Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) . Beyond his clinical and research roles, Dr. Bhandari is a passionate educator, delivering highly regarded lectures on valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathy to diverse audiences. He is dedicated to supporting the development of future cardiologists through training and education. His contributions to medical education were recognised with the UHL Rising Star Educator Award in 2020 .
