Mr Rajaratnam originally trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital in London and qualified with a First Class degree in anatomy and an MBBS in 1997. He trained via the Royal College of Surgeons, England at numerous centres of excellence in the U.K. and then Australia. Sam was awarded the “Walter Mercer Gold Medal” for the best performance throughout Great Britain and Ireland in the final FRCS Orthopaedics examination in 2006. He was the British Orthopaedic Association Ambassador to Hong Kong in 2007 and worked in Sydney Australia at some of the world’s best knee injury units before being appointed Consultant Surgeon in the U.K. in 2008, and now enjoys an excellent international reputation as a leading knee surgeon and a key opinion leader in his field.

Mr. Sam Rajaratnam FRCS (Tr. & Orth.) is an internationally renowned Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee replacement surgery and sporting injuries of the knee. His London practice is based at the Cleveland clinic, Belgravia, London. The Cleveland Clinic is ranked amongst the world’s best hospitals and the facility in London is a 184 bedded multi-disciplinary hospital staffed by the largest collective of employed consultant surgeons, physicians and other multi-disciplinary team members. He also practices at the Horder centre in Crowborough, East Sussex, which is a centre of excellence for Orthopaedic Care in southern England. Sam has personally performed approximately 6000 knee replacements (approximately 550 Partial, Full and Revision knee replacements each year) with excellent outcomes, and is an expert on rapid recovery and lower pain scores following knee surgery. He has developed an expert multidisciplinary team with Anaesthetist Dr. Barry Phillips to deliver excellent care and the latest pain relieving techniques after Knee Replacement Surgery. He also has one of the Lowest Revision (failure) rates and best PROMS after knee replacements on the U.K. National Joint Registry and is a huge advocate for transparent outcome measure driven healthcare. He is an expert on the ROSA Robotic assisted Knee replacement and was first to implement ROSA robotic technology in the U.K. within the private sector. Sam regularly treats numerous Professional and Amateur sportsmen with soft tissue injuries to their knee and performs over 120 ACL reconstructions and many other soft tissue procedures each year, as Day case procedures. He regularly treats members of the Professional Football Association and is on the faculty of the FIFA Football medicine conference each year.
