GMC reg: 4017345Having qualified from Sheffield in 1993, I trained in general surgery, general medicine, accident and emergency and neurology before starting my training in ophthalmology. In 1996 I started my ophthalmology training in Glasgow and then went on the senior house officer rotation Leeds. I then joined the specialist registrar rotation in 1999 in the West Midlands and in 2004 was appointed Consultant in the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, with a specialist interest in retinal diseases. Despite this specialist interest, I continued to oversee a large volume of general adult ophthalmology and was responsible for approximately ten thousand patient episodes annually. In May 2017 I moved to the Machen Eye Unit in the South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. In January 2020, I took up the additional role of Assistant Clinical Professor (OSCE Lead) at the Warwick Medical School which ended in July 2021. I have co-authored numerous publications and I have many areas of interest within ophthalmic practice, one of the most prominent of which is workforce development and education and training. I was awarded the Masters in Medical Education from the University of Birmingham in 2016. I have convened a number of different national courses in ophthalmic imaging, laser and intravitreal therapies. After holding a number of administrative roles within BMEC, I have spent more time recently as examiner and surgical skills instructor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. .I have also served as an invited examiner overseas. I have taken part in charitable collaborative education and training programs in Tanzania and Cambodia. I set up the Vision 2020 Link twinning our hospital with the Kenyatta University Hospital in Nairobi and delivered retinal laser training in February 2019. My external duties include being ophthalmology adviser to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. I have started a new venture, formalising my offering of career advice and coaching.
