Miss Samantha Hunt

I completed my medical degree at Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, and my ophthalmology specialty training in the Severn region, during which I also undertook a masters in medical education, achieving a distinction for my dissertation. I completed a fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery in East Grinstead, before starting consultant work. I am now a full-time consultant and specialty lead for oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital, as well as being available for private work in the region, mostly based out of Vision Care Clinic. My role allows me to undertake collaborative work across an array of other specialties, including ENT, maxillofacial and neurosurgery, dermatology and radiology, as well as all of my other ophthalmology colleagues.

My role allows me to undertake a variety of clinical work and includes the following: Eyelids: cancers lumps and bumps malposition - turning in, turning out, sitting too high or too low (entropion, ectropion, ptosis) eyelash problems dry eyes watery eyes dermatitis and skin problems excess skin floppy eyelids facial nerve palsy abnormal movements including spasms, and blink issues infections trauma cosmetic concerns Lacrimal: watery eyes for a large number of problems stretching or surgery to opening of tear drainage system when they have become narrowed DCR surgery to restore tear outflow when tear ducts are blocked and causing watering or infections- externally and via endonasal approach Lester-Jones tubes for canalicular obstruction conjunctival issues causing reflex tearing eyelid issues causing watering botulinum toxin to lacrimal gland to reduce production of tears trauma Orbital: thyroid eye disease cancers and benign tumours inflammatory disorders trauma infections supporting access to the brain/intracranial cavity for neurosurgeons or interventional radiologists
