Ms Sally Ameen

Ms Sally Ameen is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in glaucoma surgery including the latest Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) as well as various types of filtration surgery, ranging from the traditional trabeculectomy to the latest tube implant surgery. She is also highly trained in complex cataract surgery and emergency ophthalmology. Ms Ameen completed her ophthalmic training in the north Thames London deanery, and rotated through Moorfields Hospital as well as the Western Eye hospital. Her passion for education continued into her consultant post, where she held the position of college tutor where she lead more than 20 trainees. Last year, she was awarded the silver scalpel award, after being nominated by the Western Eye trainees as the best surgical trainer. She is also the Secretary for the Ophthalmic division of the Royal Society of medicine and continues to be involved in both chairing and organising educational events. Amongst other roles, Ms Ameen is the Deputy Division Director for Quality and Safety, for Surgery and Cancer at Imperial NHS Trust. The role demonstrates her commitment to ensure she is always at the forefront of best practice medicine. Ms Ameen has presented her work at a number of meetings, published in peer reviewed journals and has written 2 book chapters. She continues to be actively involved in research both within her hospital and in larger national trials. When it comes to patient care, she likes to have ongoing involvement in the lives of her patients as she takes them on a journey - which she credits as one of the reasons why she finds her job so rewarding.
