Dr Rozina Ali

Dr Rozina Ali is an internationally trained and highly experienced consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, with a specialist interest in all aspects of breast surgery. She graduated from St Thomas' Hospital Medical School, University of London with First class Anatomy BSc honours and an osteoarcheology research thesis based at the Natural History Museum. Rozina continued her research interests, studying leprosy in Venezuela and the stigmata of leprosy on bones in Portugal and the UK. Her Doctorate was undertaken at the Centre for Cutaneous Research, University of London, describing newly discovered innate immune peptides known as Human Beta Defensins in the skin and developing antibodies for ongoing research.  Rozina has been writing and publishing in the scientific literature since 1991 with her contribution to the World Health organisation study on the ocular complications of leprosy and winning the Great Britain and Ireland Anatomical Society Undergraduate prize. Rozina pursued postgraduate surgical training at several London teaching hospitals including St Thomas’ and the Royal London, as well as specialist units such as Great Ormond Street and the St Andrews Burns Unit at Chelmsford.  Rozina’s interest in microvascular surgery was sparked whilst training in Hull and Wakefield and she attended the inaugural meeting of the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery in Taiwan in 2001. Since that time, she has pursued an interest in microvascular breast reconstruction and perforator flap surgery with additional training and fellowships in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, breast aesthetics and advanced surgery as well as significant aesthetics fellowships in Italy, France and several times in Brazil with her friend and mentor the late Professor Ivo Pitanguy.  Rozina has written numerous papers on microvascular and breast surgery and contributed to some of the most respected specialty texts in Plastic surgery including Grabb’s Encyclopedia of Flaps, Scott Spear’s ‘Surgery of the Breast: Principles and Art’ and the inaugural encyclopedia of Perforator flaps (Blondeel et al). She has collaborated and writing with some of the most esteemed names in international plastic surgery. Her papers have been cited hundreds of times and she has been invited internationally as a Keynote speaker (Singapore, Mexico) and present at numerous National and International meetings on breast reconstruction and breast aesthetics from China to the USA. She has previously been an expert advisor to NICE and currently sits as a Royal College of Surgeons of England appointments assessor and invited reviewer for the Royal college of surgeon bulletin She is a trainer and speaker for Allergan on the use of Fillers and Facial aesthetics. Rozina practiced in the NHS for 25 years and as a consultant in microvascular breast reconstruction for 10 years before relocating to London to continue her successful practice in the private sector.
