Mr Ronald Van Heerwaarden

Mr. Ronald van Heerwaarden, orthopaedic surgeon since 2001, headed the Limb Reconstruction Center and the Limb Deformity Reconstruction Units of the Sint MaartensClinics until 2015, and in 2016 he established the Centre for Deformity Correction and Joint Preserving Surgery at Kliniek ViaSana in Mill, the Netherlands. He also works as a consultant for osteotomies in the International Knee and joint Centre in Abu Dhabi since 2015. Since 2019 he practices in London (UK) at the London Clinic and the Cromwell Hospital, as a consultant for complex osteotomies and joint preserving surgery.   In the past decades, from 2003 until 2014, he was a member of the AO Knee expert group, responsible for the development of new osteotomy techniques, osteotomy instruments and the TomoFix plates. He is currently working on the development of new instruments and implants for osteotomy surgery with Newclip Technics. In 2016 Mr. van Heerwaarden was appointed as the 1st Chairman of the ESSKA Osteotomy Committee, and he has served as vice-Chairman until 2019. From 2021 until 2022 he was a member of the ESSKA Osteotomy Consensus project. He was a co-editor on the books Osteotomies for Posttraumatic Deformities, Osteotomies around the knee, and a German book on osteotomies around the knee. He was a co-editor of the KSSTA January 2013 special issue on Osteotomies around the Knee. Starting from 2003 he has authored or co-authored more than 200 articles on deformity analysis, osteotomies around the knees and joint preserving surgery. In the past 25 years he has been an invited speaker at osteotomy meetings and has organized numerous courses on osteotomies and joint preserving surgery all over the world.
