Trained in cardiology in Oxford and at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Completed specialist training in 1998 at the Royal Brompton and was appointed at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2000. Publications I have established a standing at national and international level for practice and research in interventional cardiology. I established the Clinical Trials and Evaluation Unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital and led its initial flagship ventures including the landmark Stent or Surgery Trial (SoS). The primary publication from this study has been in the top 1% of quoted papers in cardiology. The HEAT-PPCI trial, performed at LHCH, has also achieved international recognition, both for its clinical impact and its novel methodology. As part of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the formation of the NHS, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) named HEAT-PPCI as one of the 70 greatest research achievements in NHS history.
