In June 2001 I was appointed as a substantive NHS consultant, fully located at the Regional Neuroscience Centre at King’s. I was appointed the Lead Clinician for Neurology for King’s in Sept 2001. During this time I organised the in-patient neurology service, led negotiations with Trusts about joint neurological services and organised a number of new consultant posts split between King’s and partner hospitals. I engaged with local commissioners about improving neurology services in particular about funding of new treatments for multiple sclerosis and commissioning the use of botulinum toxin for dystonia. I also organised the regional neuroscience training meetings and organised the Association of British Neurology meeting in 2006. I set up the out-of-hours stroke service at King’s and led the amalgamation of consultants in neurology and geriatric medicine to create a much larger stroke department at King’s. This acted as a foundation for the successful application of King’s to become a HASU in 2010. In 2012 I was appointed the Lead Clinician for Stroke at King’s. I was instrumental in the move of stroke from the division of acute medicine to neuroscience aligned to the Regional Neuroscience service at King’s. I took over the role as the strategic lead of the stroke services at Denmark Hill and Princess Royal following King’s acquisition of the PRU in October 2013. Since then we have seen the stroke services at both sites perform consistently, extremely well on the National stroke audits with PRU transforming from a failing stroke unit to one competing at the highest level. From 2021 to 2025 I have been the Clinical Director for Neurology and Stroke at King’s College Hospital. Throughout my clinical career I have remained committed to excellent patient care. I have expertise in all of the main areas of neurology and have a sub-specialty interest in stroke.
