Dr Ricky Frazer MBBCh (Hons), MSc (MedEduc), BSc, PgCert (Onc), PgCert (ClinLead), PgCert (AcuteMed), MAcadMEd, MRCP, AFFMLM Dr Ricky Frazer is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC), Cardiff. He specialises in renal cancer, skin cancer, and acute oncology, and is Clinical Lead for the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit, the Immunotherapy Toxicity Management Service, and Advanced Cellular Therapies at VCC. Dr Frazer graduated with First Class Honours in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Bath before completing his medical degree with honours (MBBCh) in Cardiff. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Oncology, Clinical Leadership, and Acute Medicine, including a distinction in the Postgraduate Certificate in Acute Medicine at the University of South Wales. He is a Welsh Clinical Leadership Training Fellow alumnus and a Founding Associate Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. He has a strong interest in medical education. He is a Royal College of Physicians (RCP) College Tutor and Faculty Lead, an Honorary Lecturer at Cardiff University (delivering across Years 2–5 of the undergraduate curriculum), and Programme Director for the GMC-accredited Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Medical Oncology with the University of Buckingham. He completed an MSc in Medical Education and was awarded the RCP Munro Medal for excellence and leadership in education. Nationally, Dr Frazer is Vice President of the Immuno-Oncology Clinical Network (IOCN) and co-leads the monthly National Immuno-Oncology Education Forum. He played a central role in developing the national Practical Management of Your Immuno-Oncology Patient (PMI-OP) educational series, promoting best practice in immunotherapy toxicity recognition and management. Since its inception, this series has been attended by approximately 3,000 healthcare professionals nationwide. Dr Frazer has been recognised with multiple awards, including Velindre NHS Trust’s Individual Leader of the Year (2023 and 2024) and team awards for Education, Research and Innovation, and Patient Experience. In 2023, the Velindre Immunotherapy Team also won the Macmillan UK National Innovation Excellence Award. He chaired the National Melanoma Focus Meeting in 2024, attended by over 250 healthcare professionals, and has delivered international education, including the FRCR Part 2 course in Hong Kong (2024) and multiple keynote lectures across India (2025). He is a founding member of the UK Renal Oncology Collaborative (UK ROC) and co-founder of The Immunobuddies podcast, launched in 2023. The podcast, which explores the use and management of immunotherapy in cancer, is freely available across major platforms and has been downloaded in over 120 countries.
