Dr Richard Pope

I have been an NHS consultant since 1993 and have a broad experience in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes. Prior to becoming a consultant my research experience was in the field of autoimmune thyroid disease, an area that I remain very interested in. As a consultant I have always placed great importance on involving the person in decisions about their own health and in creating a collaborative approach to care, in order to deliver the best results for those I work with. Healthcare has gone through huge changes in 2020. Many years ago, I recognised the importance of using digital approaches such as video consultation to support people promptly and without always needing face to face meetings and developed one of the UK's first clinical video consultation services 14 years ago. This is an approach that has become topical due to the Covid-19 pandemic; it is a way of working that I am extremely familiar with.
