Mr Richard Pickard

Richard has been a Consultant Spinal Surgeon for over a decade. He  believes in minimal intervention to treat spinal conditions, where appropriate. He works closely with physiotherapists, pain specialists and other health professionals to optimise patients’ treatment prior to undertaking any surgical procedures. He takes time to explain things clearly to patients enabling them to make informed decisions. His practice encompasses all aspects of spinal surgery. Richard completed his training as a spinal surgeon at the world leading spinal centre in Oxford, undertaking a prestigious 1 year advanced spinal fellowship giving comprehensive training in all aspects of cutting edge spinal surgery. This was followed by a further year as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the John Radcliffe and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Hospitals in Oxford.  Mr Pickard is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Heatherwood and Wexham Park of Frimley Health Foundation Trust. He is the Frimley regional lead of the Thames Valley Spine Network. ? He is a member of the British-Association-of-Spinal-Surgeons and the European-Spine-Society ? Mr Pickard teaches on spinal training programs throughout the country and is referred patients for spinal opinions from across the UK. He has published extensively and presented papers both nationally and internationally. ? Mr Pickard provided trauma and spinal surgical support to the British Forces holding the rank of Surgeon Commander. He was 1 of 2 British Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeons and the sole spinal surgeon deployed to camp Bastion Afghanistan in Summer 2011. ? Richard is married to Alison a GP and has 3 young children and 2 springer spaniels. He enjoys spending time with his young family as well as sailing, cycling, skiing and cooking.
