Mr Richard Napier

Mr. Richard Napier is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery in Northern Ireland for both adults and children. Based in Belfast, he provides comprehensive patient-centred care, offering both surgical and non-surgical treatment options to achieve the best possible outcomes. His expertise encompasses the management of knee injuries and degenerative knee conditions. After completing his specialist training in N.Ireland he pursued advanced fellowship training in arthroplasty, knee and sports medicine within internationally renowned orthopaedic research centres in Exeter (UK) and Melbourne (Australia). In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Napier is committed to education and research. He is a member of the Regional Orthopaedic Training Committee and holds a Masters degree in Medical Education from Queens University Belfast. Mr Napier serves as a Trustee for the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Charity (TORC), dedicated to advancing orthopaedic care throughout Northern Ireland. He is an active member of both the TORC Patient Liaison Group and the Clinical Research Group. As a Principal Investigator (PI), he has led numerous local and national studies, earning recognition as PI of the Year in 2020 for his contributions to children’s trauma research. Since 2020, he has been a co-lead and PI for the Clinical Research Network, driving impactful initiatives in orthopaedic clinical research.  His NHS practice is within Musgrave Park Hospital, Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and Royal Victoria Hospital. His practice focuses on sports knee injuries, ACL injuries, meniscal tears, patellar instability, cartilage injuries, knee arthritis and knee replacement surgery, using evidence-based treatment tailored to each patient.
