Mr Richard Imonikhe

Richard Imonikhe FRCOphth, MBBS, MSc, BEng, ARSM   Mr. Richard Imonikhe is the  Glaucoma Lead Consultant at University Hospital Southampton  and the founder of  Lumeria Eye Clinic , where he provides private specialist care.   Richard grew up in Southampton before moving to  Imperial College London , where he earned a  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering  followed by a  postgraduate Master’s degree  in  Science and Engineering in Medicine . He initially worked at the forefront of  medical innovation , specializing in regulatory and safety assessments for novel clinical trials. His passion for medicine led him to medical school, where he developed an early interest in  Ophthalmology . His ophthalmic training took him through several  prestigious institutions , including  Charing Cross Hospital, Western Eye Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, and Moorfields Eye Hospital , where he completed a  glaucoma fellowship .   Expertise & Surgical Skills Richard is an expert in: Cataract Surgery Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT),  YAG Capsulotomy, and  Laser Peripheral Iridotomy , as well as a highly experienced  Glaucoma Surgery - Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)  using  Elios laser, iStent, Preserflo, Hydrus Shunt, and the OmniSurgical system Traditional glaucoma surgeries , including  trabeculectomy and aqueous shunt implantation  (Paul’s tube, Ahmed valve, Baerveldt valve)   Research & Teaching   Richard has a strong academic background, with research interests in  medical devices, AI applications in healthcare, and advanced glaucoma surgery . He has contributed to  large clinical trials  and published research in  peer-reviewed journals . As an educator, he regularly teaches  medical students, optometrists, nurses, and doctors  at both regional and departmental levels, sharing his expertise in  glaucoma, laser treatments, and surgical innovations .   Patient-Centered Care Richard’s approach is  highly personalized , focusing on understanding each patient’s  unique needs and preferences .
