Dr. Richard Gordon-Williams gained a position on the MB PhD programme while studying medicine at University College London. He was awarded a Wellcome trust fellowship to support his research and in 2009 was successful in gaining a PhD for his work investigating the neuronal and non-neuronal mechanisms of cancer induced bone pain. He undertook his anaesthetic training in London, with subspeciality training in pain medicine at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and University College London Hospital. He took up a fellowship in the management of cancer pain at the Royal Marsden, prior to being appointed as a consultant in anaesthesia and pain medicine in 2019. His clinical interests include the management of pain in cancer, including pain from disease and its treatment and pain in survivorship. Of particular interest is the management of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and interventional approaches in management of pain in cancer. He has a keen interest in the anaesthesia for major cancer resection including upper gastrointestinal surgery.
