GMC reg: 4372884Prof Yirupaiahgari KS Viswanath FRCS, MS, MB Professor Viswanath has been a practising consultant since 2001 in General Surgery at the James Cook University Hospital, where he has successfully led the Upper Gastro-Intestinal services previously and completed his tenure as the Cancer Lead clinician for one of the largest tertiary centres in the UK. Prof Viswanath specialises in acid-reflux, hiatus hernia, Achalasia and Upper GI cancer disorders, routinely undertaking advanced laparoscopic surgeries, endoscopies including dilatations, EMR placements of stents, POEM and others. He was the first to establish a STRETTA (Endoscopic Anti-reflux Radio-frequency Treatment) centre in the UK and hold 'Live' training courses/webinars in the UK and abroad. He successfully centralised OG cancer services in Teesside, South Durham and North Yorkshire 20 years ago. He currently serves in the ALSGBI council, the AUGIS endoscopy committee and leads the global level of harm project during the pandemic as part of the TUGS (The Upper GI Surgery) group. He is actively involved in regional and national laparoscopic training over the last two decades. He is a programme director for postdoctoral MCh surgical specialities in collaboration with Teesside University and runs full-time and part-time fellowships. He has been an examiner for Intercollegiate MRCS Examiner, Undergraduate MBBS Examiner Clinical Supervisor for PhD, MPhil, MSc, National Specialist Registrar selection board National CEPOD clinical advisor/peer reviewer and FRCS Intercollegiate examiner. His research interests include oesophago-gastric cancer, Barrett's oesophagus, oesophageal dysmotility, acid Reflux/hiatus hernia and Achalasia. He has been serving as a reviewer and editorial board member for more than a decade with various journals, including the World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Journal of GI endoscopy, Artificial Intelligence in GI endoscopy and ASGBI.

I am an established General, Upper Gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeon, practicing for more than 20 years. I specialise in all hernia surgeries, gall stone, acid-reflux, hiatus hernia, achalasia and Upper GI cancer disorders. I carry out routinely advanced laparoscopic surgeries, endoscopies including dilatation, placements of stents etc. I were first to establish STRETTA (Endoscopic Anti-reflux Radio-frequency Treatment) centre in UK and hold 'Live' training courses. I have introduced Restech pH studies to investigate and manage patients with acid reflux and LPR (cough, lumpy sensation in the throat, cranky voice etc).
