Professor Tim Spalding

Tim is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon previously based at the University Hospitals Coventry Warwickshire NHS Trust. He undertakes specialist knee surgery and consultations at the Warwickshire Nuffield Hospital in Leamington and at the Cleveland Clinic London, where he has been appointed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery . He continues to undertake clinical outcome research at UHCW NHS Trust, Coventry. He qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in London and completed a fellowship in knee and sports surgery in Toronto, Canada in 1995. He has been specialising in knee surgery since that time. Tim treats many sportspersons and his interests cover the range of knee surgery including arthroscopic anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for the unstable knee, meniscal surgery and reconstruction, surgery for patello-femoral problems, articular cartilage repair and meniscal allograft transplantation for joint biologic reconstruction, through to osteotomy and joint replacement for the worn knee. More recent interests include injectable biologics. In meniscus transplantation he has now done over 400 implantations which is the most in the UK. He is also actively involved with research and teaching both nationally and internationally. He is chairman of the Steering committee of the UK National Ligament Registry dedicated to analysing and improving the outcome of Anterior Cruciate ligament reconstruction. Internationally he is president of the ACL Study group, the leading research organisation for ACL injuries, and co-chairman of the International Meniscal Reconstruction Forum IMReF.
