GMC reg: 4311757Professor Alok Tiwari qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1996. He then undertook basic surgical training at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex. Mr Tiwari undertook a Master of Surgery degree at the Royal Free Hospital in London. His thesis was the ‘Development of a hybrid cardiovascular graft using a tissue engineering approach’. He presented and published extensively from this. Professor Tiwari received specialist registrar training in London and Essex in both general and vascular surgery. During this time he undertook a one year Vascular fellowship at the prestigious Westmead Vascular Unit in Sydney, Australia where he learnt endovascular techniques to allow the treatment of patients using minimally invasive methods including angioplasty and Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR). He worked as a locum consultant in the vascular unit at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. Mr Tiwari was appointed to University Hospital Birmingham (formerly Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Selly Oak Hospital) in Jan 2011. He was instrumental in the development of the fenestrated endovascular program and the diabetic foot service. He currently supervises a research fellow looking at the diabetic foot. He is also a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham involved in teaching and training medical students. He has over 90 published articles in journals. He has also recently been working in Singapore for 12 months . during this sabbatical he has learnt to further deal with complex diabetic foot disease and advanced endovascular angioplasty for limb salvage. Professor Tiwari is a member of the European Society of Vascular Surgery, British Society of Endovascular Therapy and British Medical Association.

I specialise in minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins utilising both endovenous laser treatment and foam sclerotherapy. I also treat leg ulcer caused by both veins and arterial problems (lack of blood supply to foot), abdominal aortic aneurysm (both open and keyhole procedures) and carotid artery surgery for prevention of strokes. I perform angioplasty for patient with reduced blood supply which can be a cause of leg ulcers and gangrene. I specialise in the management of the diabetic foot and its complications.
