GMC reg: 4483971Christof Kastner has been a Consultant Urologist based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge since 2009. He is Affiliated Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge and emeritus professor at the International Medical School of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. His specialist training took place in hospitals including Guy’s Hospital, UCL (both in London) and the Prostate Centre in Guildford, and for his early consultant years he worked under the mentorship of Prof David Neal. Christof introduced MRI fusion prostate biopsies to the UK and is one of the internationally leading experts in assessment and treatment of benign and cancerous prostatic disease. Having formed an international collaboration between his colleagues in Cambridge and other centres in Europe and Australia, he has been senior author of multiple publications, which have changed the approach to prostate cancer assessment. For men presenting with symptoms of prostate enlargement or the suspicion of prostate cancer, Mr Kastner can offer a wealth of expertise based on his experience and evidence and allowing an individually tailored assessment and treatment using minimally invasive approaches to minimise side-effects. With his eminent radiology colleague Prof Barrett they deliver the only true MRI fusion prostate cancer diagnostic service in the UK by transferring the radiological localisation direct onto the patients prostate. The MRI fusion combined with electromagnetic needle tracking (vector) pathway delivers the highest detection rate published in literature.
