Mr Professor Andrew Goldberg

Professor Andy Goldberg OBE is a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon in London, specialising exclusively in foot and ankle problems in adults and children. He has particular expertise in ankle pain, ankle arthritis, total ankle replacement, ankle fusion, sports injuries, ankle instability, Achilles tendon disorders, bunions and complex foot and ankle reconstruction . Professor Goldberg believes surgery should only be recommended when genuinely necessary. Approximately 85% of his patients are managed without surgery , using an evidence-based multidisciplinary approach involving physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthotists and rehabilitation specialists. When surgery is required, he offers a comprehensive range of treatments, including minimally invasive techniques where appropriate. He leads a full-time specialist foot and ankle practice in London , supported by a dedicated administrative team and 24/7 patient contact , providing excellent accessibility and continuity of care. He also chairs the pan-HCA Foot and Ankle Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) , bringing together specialists from across HCA Healthcare UK to review complex cases and provide collective specialist opinion, peer review and additional clinical governance. Professor Goldberg qualified from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Imperial College London, in 1994 and subsequently undertook a fellowship in complex foot and ankle surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford , as well as an international travelling fellowship visiting 15 leading foot and ankle centres across the United States and Europe . Alongside his clinical practice, he is Visiting Professor of Trauma and Orthopaedics at Imperial College London and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London (UCL) . He was previously an Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore . He is a Chief Investigator or Co-Investigator on NIHR-funded studies , including Chief Investigator of the NIHR HTA TARVA trial , comparing ankle replacement with ankle fusion across 17 NHS hospitals. His research includes ankle replacement, surgical outcomes, cartilage repair, biomechanics and regenerative medicine , including stem-cell therapies. He has published extensively and is the author and editor of several surgical textbooks, including Surgical Talk and the Atlas of Ankle Replacements . He serves on the National Joint Registry Editorial Committee and Medical Advisory Committee and is an International Editor of Foot & Ankle International . Professor Goldberg was appointed OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours for services to medicine . He has also been independently recognised in the Tatler Address Book / Good Doctors Guide and Spear’s Best Private Doctors in London . His practice combines specialist expertise with conservative treatment, multidisciplinary care, evidence-based decision-making and continuity of care , with surgery reserved for patients in whom it is genuinely indicated.
