Dr Pratik Hasmukh Shah

Pratik is a Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes and Honorary senior lecturer. He did his PhD in the field of Congenital Hyperinsulinism and specialises in managing children with all forms of glucose disorders (rare and syndromic forms of hypoglycaemia/diabetes, congenital hyperinsulinism and ketotic hypoglycaemia). He manages children with endocrine conditions, obesity as well as all forms of diabetes. He is also part of multidisciplinary team for bariatric surgery in children. His research includes identifying and understanding molecular basis of non-diabetic hypoglycaemia including syndromes and identifying novel therapies in hypoglycaemia/hyperinsulinism. He has been speaker at various international and national meetings and has been primary investigator for various investigational studies and clinical trials. He has over seventy scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and over hundred twenty abstract presentations. He is also written three book chapters on “Hypoglycaemia in Children”. His other passion includes high quality teaching and training in the field of paediatric endocrinology and organised various national and international endocrinology meetings/symposium (on Hypoglycaemia disorders in children). Pratik has been working with parent organisations nationally and internationally. He serves as a Patron for the Childrens Hyperinsulinism UK charity and is a senior scientific advisory board member for Ketotic Hypoglycaemia international and Congenital Hyperinsulinism International. He is also part of steering committee member for hyperinsulinism global registry as well as member of CHI Collaborative Research Network (CRN) Genetics Workstream Council, Congenital hyperinsulinism International, USA. He is the founder and chairman of Congenital Hyperinsulinism India Association, a non-profit organisation working to improve lives of children and families with rare diseases. He is a member of Clinical Practice Committee at European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE). His works as a visiting consultant for setting up multidisciplinary specialist clinics for children with all forms of Glucose disorders as well as obesity.
