Mr Pramod Achan

I was educated at Mill Hill School in London where I was a monitor and captained the school eleven in Hockey and Cricket. I then went to Barts Medical School, representing the medical school at various sports and captaining the first eleven cricket side as well as representing London University at Hockey. I did my Orthopaedic training on the Percivall Pott Rotation of which I have now been the training programme director for 12 years, and fellowships in the US and Australia. I have subsequently been appointed in 2005 to a consultant post at Barts my alma mater and been selected as the hip society travelling fellow in 2009 and an ABC travelling fellow in 2014. I have a masters from Cornell in Healthcare leadership and have completed the European Healthcare leadership programme at INSEAD and the Value Based Healthcare programme at Harvard Business School. I was one of the founding partners at One Welbeck Orthopaedics. I live in North London with my wife who is an oncologist and my two boys. 

I specialise in surgery of the Hip and Knee. I have fellowship training in sports surgery as well as arthroplasty of the hip and knee. I have nearly 20 years of consultant experience in routine and complex surgery including hip arthroscopy, knee ligament reconstruction, partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, revision knee replacements and patients specific knee surgery. Likewise I have specialist training and experience in complex hip surgery, young adult hip preservation surgery and hip replacements in the young. I have lectured on these topics and my experience globally including guest lectures at Harvard, Stanford, NYU, Duke, Emory, UBC to mention a few. I have worked at Barts Health NHS trust for 19 years and was Chief of the service there for 8 years.
