Following surgical training in Edinburgh, and a commission in the Royal Navy, I subsequently undertook specialty training in paediatric surgery in London, Newcastle, Glasgow and an international fellowship in Auckland, NZ. I was appointed as consultant paediatric surgeon in 2010, initially at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, before returning to Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital, now RHCYP, in 2015. I enjoy the breadth of my paediatric surgery practice and have expertise in the general surgery of childhood such as tongue-tie, circumcision, umbilical and groin hernia/hydrocele, undescended testicles, constipation, upper GI endoscopy, ingrown toe nails and removal of minor skin lumps/moles/tags. Having run a tongue-tie service throughout my consultant career I am keen to support breastfeeding in this way. My NHS practice also includes oncology, thoracic and complex gastro-intestinal surgery and I have an ongoing interest in developing trauma care in the UK as well as in humanitarian environments abroad. Throughout my consultant practice I have exhibited excellent quality performance indicators and I now teach on national courses and mentor consultant colleagues.
