From my appointment to Kettering General Hospital in 1991, I have built up the Dept from a single-handed unit to a 7 Consultant unit. In 1993 I introduced phacoemulsification cataract surgery to the county. Soon after we acquired similar equipment for the Woodland hospital where I have also provided this cataract service. I have specialised in cataract and corneal surgery, in particular techniques minimising refractive error with control of astigmatism using the latest equipment and computer software. I have gained experience in the use of multifocal implants, including accommodative implants over the past 20 years, but now favour extended focus lenses. I also have an interest in Refractive surgery, setting up a refractive/laser unit at Woodland Hospital in 2008.I have also been interested in surgery for glaucoma and I have published on the subject along with design and development of new instruments in glaucoma and cataract surgery. I retired from Kettering General in 2018 and now work only at Glendon Wood Hospital, Kettering.
