Ms Panagiota Founti

Panagiota Founti, MD, PhD, FEBO (Hons) is a Glaucoma Specialist and a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. She is also the Training Director for the Glaucoma Service at Moorfields. Following a Medical Degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in Greece, P. Founti received an MSc in Medical Research Methodology and a PhD in the field of Ocular Blood Flow, for which she received a Scholarship Award for excellence in PhD studies. She completed Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, AUTH, AHEPA Hospital, Thessaloniki and then qualified as a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO), with a 2nd place award among 358 candidates from 25 European countries. This was followed by 4 years of advanced subspecialty training in the medical and surgical management of Glaucoma at St Thomas’ Hospital (1 year) and at Moorfields Eye Hospital (3 years), London, UK. She has also received the FEBO Specialist Diploma in Glaucoma. P. Founti’s main research interests include epidemiology, randomised controlled trials and glaucoma complex genetics. She has co-authored 41 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, the 4th and 5th Edition of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) “Terminology and Guidelines for glaucoma”, and the “Consensus Series from the World Glaucoma Association” in 2016 and 2019. She is also a contributor to the “Guide on surgical innovation for glaucoma” recently published by the EGS. She has been serving for many years as a reviewer for several scientific journals, including the British Journal of Ophthalmology. Since June 2024, P. Founti is a Member of the Executive Committee of the EGS. Through this activity she is currently leading the EGS Task Force Group “A guide on surgical innovation in bleb-forming procedures” with the objective to provide to the ophthalmology community across Europe an overview of the existing evidence and clinical recommendations on traditional and newer glaucoma surgery.
