GMC reg: 4034951I qualified from the University of London (Guy's and St Thomas') in 1993 achieving the MBBS degree but also gaining a degree in experimental pathology. My training in medicine has essentially been based in the South Thames region, particularly in cardiology from 1996. During my training I passed the MRCP, gained a distinction in the Cardiology MSc from the University of Sussex and an MD from the University of London (having been a BHF Junior Fellow). I was appointed a consultant in 2004 at King's College and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, later focusing particularly at King's. I am now mainly based at King's with some time spent at the Princess Royal in Farnborough, Kent. I run the specialist Neurocardiology service at King's managing the complex areas of cardiovascular conditions causing unconsciousness and dizzy spells and abnormalities of cardiac autonomics such as POTS and IST. I also advise hospital services on the better management of syncope / blackouts in the general population. I am adviser to STARS the national blackout charity and a patron of POTS-UK, the national POTS charity.
Cardiology - Electrophysiology
I am a cardiologist specializing in heart rhythm problems, presenting as palpitations, dizzy spells and blackouts; these include fast rhythms such as SVT, VT, AF and flutter but also slow rhythms treated with pacemakers. This also includes the assessment of the risk of sudden death. My particular area of interest is in blackouts and their causes which overlaps significantly with neurology, neuro-otology and neuro-psychiatry. We run a national referral centre for these complex areas. This is particularly focused on the management of POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and inappropriate sinus tachycardia and related conditions. There is a large overlap with CFS / ME, hypermobility of its various forms and Lyme disease. Working in a multi-disciplinary team often provides patients with optimal management.
