Mr Nick Cooke

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, including primary joint replacements, complex revision procedures and metal-on-metal hip revisions. I perform around 450 hip and knee replacements each year, giving me extensive experience in both straightforward and complex cases. I also provide knee arthroscopy for meniscal tears and cartilage problems, as well as hip and knee injections, which can often be carried out during the same appointment to offer fast, effective pain relief.   I hold regular clinics for self pay and insured patients at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital and Nuffield Health York Hospital with my aim being to give patients a clear understanding of what is going on and what can be done about it. My private practice is managed by my wife Joanne, who provides exceptional customer service and can often arrange appointments at short notice. I completed specialist orthopaedic training across the North East and went on to a prestigious fellowship in the Edinburgh Lower Limb Reconstruction Unit, working alongside some of the UK’s leading joint reconstruction surgeons. My academic work includes significant research in Birmingham hip resurfacing, with publications in respected orthopaedic journals and presentations at national conferences. I have also appeared on Channel 4’s  Dispatches  for my expertise in metal-on-metal hip findings.

Mr Cooke specialises in primary hip and knee replacements as well as complex hip and knee revisions. He also has a specialist interest in metal on metal hip revisions, having performed many revisions and published in this field. Mr Cooke also performs knee arthroscopies for meniscal tears and osteochondral defects, as well as carrying out joint injections for pain relief to hips and knees, often within a clinic setting at the same time as the initial consultation. Mr Cooke has undertaken extensive research in Birmingham hip resurfacing, measuring the bone density around the prosthesis. This has been presented at regional and national level and published in leading orthopaedic journals. He has also appeared on C4 documentary 'Dispatches', which reported on metal-on-metal (ASR) findings. Mr Cooke's private practice is run by his wife Joanne.
