Dr Muhammad Afzal

I am a clinical gastroenterologist with 20 years experience in medicine and healthcare teaching. I graduated from University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan in 1994. in UK, rotating through 7 different hospitals in 3 different regions of the UK, I completed my specialist training in Dec. 2009 and was granted CCT (Certificate of completion of training) in gastroenterology and GIM. From September 2010 I worked as a consultant at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 5 years. This is the largest health facility managed by the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs which is one of the biggest health organisations in the Middle East. I achieved the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in March 2011 and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in June 2013. I moved back to the UK in August 2015 and joined the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS trust (now called Northern Care Alliance Trust) where I am still working. I am clinical endoscopy service lead for the royal Oldham hospital. I have commitment to teaching and training of both under and postgraduate medical trainees.  

Upper and lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, polyp removal, ERCP (special endoscopy) for Bile duct stone removal or stenting, Inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, investigation and treatment (where possible) of all stomach, bowel and liver conditions. Investigation and management of abnormal liver blood tests.
