GMC reg: 6032645Shatha is a general gynaecologist with a special interest in urogynaecology. She was appointed as a consultant in 2012, at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. She has a keen interest in teaching and training and she is an educational supervisor for several foundation trainees and obstetrics and gynaecology trainees. She is also a member of the British Society of Urogynaecologists and the British Menopause Society. She has a wide experience in general gynaecology including treating menstrual (period) problems and menopause symptoms and carries out general gynaecological procedures such as hysteroscopy, polypectomy, laparoscopy and hysterectomy. She is also trained in vaginal laser therapy using Mona Lisa Touch machine located at The Wilmslow Hospital to treat vaginal dryness and discomfort associated with the menopause. She works closely with two consultant colleagues with the same interest in urogynaecology with whom she also collaborates in private practice as Partners in Women’s Health LLP. She has experience in managing perineal and pelvic floor problems following vaginal delivery, pessary management, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent UTIs, and voiding dysfunction. She is experienced in non-surgical management of urinary symptoms and trained in performing urodynamic (bladder) testing and carries out the investigations personally, combining the testing with a discussion about diagnosis and management. She has experience in out-patient procedures such as Botox injections for overactive bladder and urethral bulking for stress incontinence. She offers a full range of surgical procedures to treat both incontinence and prolapse including procedures without the use of mesh. If complex surgery is indicated she will operate in conjunction with one of the Partners in Women’s Health. In accordance with NICE guidance all continence and prolapse procedures are discussed in a multidisciplinary team meeting prior to surgery and all are registered on the national database held by the British Society of Urogynaecology
