Venkat undertook his undergraduate training in Bangalore, India and then his initial Orthopaedic training at a premier institute in North India. He came to the UK in late 1993 and did his Specialist Registrar training in Glasgow, Leicester and Oxford . At Leicester he undertook a clinical knee fellowship and then completed advanced training in knee reconstruction at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. During the latter part of his training he joined the Royal Air Force and underwent Officer training at the RAF College, Cranwell. He spent three years as a Honorary Orthopaedic Consultant at Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust, reaching the rank of Wing Commander. He served in Bosnia and Iraq during the 5 years in uniform on a Short Service Commission. Venkat took up his current post of Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon in June 2005. He performs surgical treatments for all knee conditions including total and unicompartmental knee replacement, keyhole surgery (arthroscopy), cruciate ligament reconstruction, revision knee replacement, osteotomy, meniscal repair, patellar stabilisation and patello-femoral replacement. He also performs primary hip replacement surgery and trauma/fracture surgery . Outside of work, he enjoys playing sport ( mainly tennis & cricket), working in his garden, travelling and spending quality time with his family.
