Mr Shantanu Shahane

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital NHS Trust, with private practice at Claremont and Thornbury hospitals in Sheffield. I am also a Honorary Senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield. I have also started orthopaedic clinics at Sheffield Children's Hospital to treat children suffering from pathologies of the shoulder and elbow. I specialise in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder including shoulder decompressions, excision of lateral end of clavicle rotator cuff repairs, arthrolysis for frozen shoulders and instability surgery (including Bankart and SLAP repairs). I also perform shoulder and elbow replacements for arthritic joints and have a special interest in trauma surgery including sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow. I have completed a fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, a centre of excellence for surgery of the upper limb and spent a further six months as a fellow at the Cappagh Hospital, Dublin to obtain further training in surgery of the shoulder and elbow joints. I have been awarded two training fellowships by BESS. Under its auspices, I trained with other world renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons and has worked with Dr. Sean O’Driscoll at the Mayo clinic, Rochester USA, Dr. Gartsman, Houstan, USA and Dr. Joe DeBeer at his Cape Town clinic in South Africa. I am a member of BESS (British Shoulder and Elbow Society) and is a reviewer for the journal “Shoulder and Elbow”. I am on the editorial board of the British journal " Shoulder and Elbow". I have been a member of Education Committee of BESS for 3 years. In 2018, I was appointed on the executive council of BESS. I have also been on the Instructional course committee of BESS for 8 years and have been Chairman of IC for 2 years. I have also published extensively in all fields of orthopaedic surgery. I am also a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA). I have presented shoulder and elbow papers at numerous national and international meetings and am on training faculty for courses on the shoulder and elbow joints.
