Mr Sanjay Rajpal

Mr Sanjay Rajpal is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. He started his Consultant career at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2017 and relocated to Airedale in January 2022. Sanjay completed his graduation and general surgical training at TN Dr MGR Medical University, India. He undertook his urology training in the United Kingdom. This included junior doctor placements in Surrey, Stoke-on-Trent, Stockport and a period of clinical research (evaluating the role of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound- HIFU for the treatment of Prostate cancer) at Stockport followed by higher surgical training in Yorkshire region. He gained further specialist experience by undertaking an overseas visiting fellowship at Nadiad, India under Dr Mahesh Desai. A highlight of his training period was being awarded the University Gold Medal in Surgery(TN Dr MGR Medical University) and Best Junior Doctor(NHS), this was a reflection of Sanjay’s work ethic and professionalism, something which he has continued to sustain and foster throughout his career.  Sanjay practices all aspects of general and diagnostic urology. His subspeciality interests include the management of urinary tract stone disease (kidney, ureteric and bladder stones) and urinary symptoms due to enlargement of the prostate.

He has successfully implemented day case laser prostatectomy using Greenlight laser at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and continues to pioneer this work in Airedale. He is able to offer a wide array of surgical treatment for men with urinary symptoms including Greenlight laser prostatectomy, Holmium laser enucleation of prostate, Aquablation and minimally invasive surgical options (Urolift, Rezum, iTIND). Sanjay is leading the service and pathway reconfiguration for patients in this region as the co-chair of the BPH working group in WYAAT. He has research interest and works as a investigator in clinical trials for lower urinary tract disorders.
